15th December
Went to the bus interchange to meet Clarrissa -who was as usual, late. Having to carry a heavy bag when you've an extremely heavy erhu cover is not a fun task.
Mr Chua came really really early so we didn't have much time to practice ZhanMa. Thank goodness he allowed me to play with Shiyun and Shihui. Got 26/40, think Shihui was disappointed or something. When we walking going down to watch the videos of certain songs, the three of us were busily taking the blame upon our own shoulders. Yes, we are odd people. But seriously, if I hadn't played with them they would've gotten a higher grade since having a pp in the group would mean playing better, but I wasn't much help at all. Think I kinda messed up their beat or something.
Watched Mo Li Hua in the AVA Room and realised that Clarrissa and I had played that song before in YewTee CC, just that it sounded...... rather different.
Lunch was horrible. I only enjoyed the potatoes.
The rest of the day was quite mundane. Practice, practice, practice. The games at night were stupid. Blindman's Trail was a really annoying. Talk about walking at the snail's pace, can you imagine walking from the basketball court, up and down in the sec1 block and all the way to the AVA room. We were left blindfolded in front of the AVA Room for quite sometime until I got annoyed and decided that we should go back to the CO room. Turned out that they didn't realise that they had missed left our group there. The next game was even worse. Scavenger hunt.
The first clue for my group was:
Obviously it was at the parade square since we weren't allowed to use the hall.
While finding this clue, I learnt that Ms Tay addresses us whilst:
- seated amongst the branches of a pot of flowers
- hiding under a pot of flowers
- standing in an uncovered drain
- squished in between the planks of a bench in front of the D&T rooms
Gee, I know people always joke about Ms Tay being slim and all, but this is ridiculous.
Anyhoo, our very first clue was put in an envelope of the wrong colour. They didn't even bother to put a group number in front, so we spent eons searching for a clue which we had supposedly found a long time ago.
After that, they had this clue which was a math question, rather like the question I came up with during the previous Star Search. That proved to be another annoying hunt since we couldn’t find it and had to ask Junda for help again. In the end, Junda was the one helping us find our clues.
When we were at our 6th clue, we found out that a lot of groups had been sabotaged and their clues were missing so the game was called off. All that running around like imbeciles and sweating like pigs for nothing. What a waste of time.
Couldn't sleep until 12+ since WingSan kept striding in and out of the room repeatedly. Clarrissa got extremely annoyed and yelled at her to stop it. But she still kept on zooming in and out of the room anyway. Couldn't get to sleep cos the floor was really hard. When I finally managed to fall asleep, I suddenly woke up because someone had switched on the lights. Opened my eyes to see two figures standing at the door staring solemnly into the room. Was kinda freaked out cos I didn't have my glasses on, then I realised that it was Ms Lim ans Ms Toh who had caught Cixian sneaking out of the room. After that, managed to catch a few winks until I was awoken, yet again, cos Cixian needed to use the loo. Clarrissa must have a really comfortable sleeping bag, cos she managed to sleep through all that.
16th December
Woke up in a bad mood cos I only got 4 hours of sleep. Decided to go down for breakfast resort-style (in shorts and slippers). Another horrible round of food. The oil used to fry the noodles tasted like it had been used over and over again. By then, everyone was pretty desperate for coins so they could get a drink from the vending machine. Managed to borrow some from Clarrissa. Had Pepsi Light for breakfast even though I hate Pepsi. Proves how desperate I was for a sugar boost.
The sec3s were practising their own songs for the Internal Music Exchange later that day, and JiaHui came. Almost all of us had abit of coaching from him. Was sitting next to Shuqing so I got to hear him play SaiMa, and gosh, it was nice. His LiangXiao was also really nice. After that he played it with Zhiyin, and I was like –oh darn, that's so much better than mine.
Half and hour before the Internal Music Exchange, every strings member was pretty much freaking out, busily scrubbing their rosins against their bows, re-dotting, tuning their instruments, and what must be the first time they've ever done such a thing, cleaning the rosin away from their erhu's.
Wasn't really scared at the beginning of the Music Exchange, just slightly nervous. It was only until Natalie’s turn when Shuqing said that it was her turn next, did I start to feel fear. When it was my turn, I was really freaking out.
Went up to the seat trying to control my expression, hoping that I didn’t look too freaked out. I basically screwed up the whole song from the start cos I was so scared that my beat went awry. At the second bar, I knew that the whole song was messed up, but I didn't wanna restart so I carried on playing. The more I played, the more nervous I got, and my ying zhun was really not the least bit zhun at all. Especially the notes at the bottom of my erhu, they sounded disgusting. Only when I reached the part of the song which I really liked, did I calm down a little, but I was still terribly off-key.
After the song ended, I stood in front for a few seconds but none of the instructors said anything. Was wondering –did I do so badly that they had to take so long to think of an opinion? Rushed off to my seat and Mr Chua made fun of me for being so eager to sit down. Relaxed a bit after that, but I think I was quite rude cos I sat down on the floor while listening to their comments. The comments I got mostly about my beat and my ying zhun.Mr Yeo said that my erhu's ying she was good. Doesn't that mean that my erhu's good but I'm not? [O.o]
Clarrissa and Joozhi's comments were quite amusing though. They were described as playing really stiffly, almost like being forced to work. LOL. Clarrissa's expression looked really like she was being forced to play though. wahahas.
And gosh, Mr Poh used the word sheepish. I’ve never heard anyone use that word even though I've seen it before. Coolness.
A lot of people said I didn't looked afraid. In fact, I seemed to have this slightly annoyed look on my face. Clarrissa said I looked really frightened though. Gee, she knows me too well.
P.S to the whom this remark concerns: Yes, I shall try perfecting LiangXiao since I'll probably get crappy results for my L1R5, therefore I'll need it to get in a JC.
The POP wasn't really exciting, just lots of words. The Strings section were asked to return to the 3e2 classroom. Shiyun was asking me how to pronounce the word grotesque. And yes, I do know how to pronounce it -> grow-tesk. Then she started asking me what schizophrenia meant. And after that we started babbling about other ultra-cheemnologised English words. She said that my English was good. I gave her an incredulous look and directed her to Jason's blog. Anyhoo, found out that it was cos Mr Chua had ordered a log cake. It had all these cute little figurines on top. I mean gosh, there was even an axe! So nice of him, but I still think our log cake made of paper was better. wahahas.
After having cake, we went back to the co room. Everyone was in a pretty crabby mood since it was so late. Was hoping that Ms Lim would forget about the clean-up thingie, but no, she didn’t. Had to clear up all the trash in the canteen. You wouldn't believe how messily some people eat.
Couldn't really sleep for the whole night cos for some reason or another, my arm hurt like hell. Think it was rheumatism or something. Woke up one time and saw the trio of Xueli, Shanice and Wanxing huddled together at the tables. They had this freaked look on their faces and told me that they’d just heard someone knock on the door and it had flung open. Must have told each other too many ghost stories. I just gave them a bored look and huddled back under my sleeping back trying to keep my arm warm to lessen the pain.
17th December
Woke up in the morning to someone poking my arm. It was Joyce. How rude. She blabbered to me about how easy it was to open the door despite the fact that it was locked. That explains why the door had flung open the previous night. Found out that my arm didn't hurt anymore, so I was I a much better mood. Had noodles and a pathetic-looking few rolls of chee cheong fun for breakfast. Was in dire need of bread. I cannot function without eating bread for more than 1day. Found out that Clarrissa had food poisoning so she wasn't coming. Oh well, there goes my root beer.
Went to the CO room for full orchestra. The pain in my arm suddenl came back. Was assigned to sit next to BoonYun. Got really annoyed at her. She didn't look at my direction when I asked her if she was unclear about any parts of any song, and just continued gazing straight ahead. Now that was totally unlike her sprightly self when she was with her friends. While I was busily wondering if she had even heard me, she suddenly shook her head at the air in front of her. I was rather annoyed and the pain was eating at my brains, so I asked her to play Feng Nian Ji. Her melody was passable at it's best. Her plucking was rather weird. She placed her fingers at the position where the notes were on the outer string when we were obviously plucking the inner string. Does she think we’re playing a damn guitar? She didn't even know where some of the notes were. Decided to listen to her Tian Long Ba Bu cos I couldn't take listening to her Feng Nian Ji. I swear, blood almost spewed out of my mouth when I heard her Tian Long Ba Bu. Her beat was totally wrong. I really reek at counting beats, but hers was really fantastic. How she could count out such a beat truly amazed me. Until that point of time I was thinking –Hey, maybe she's just a slow learner. Then I asked her to play other parts of Tian Long, and it was so freaking obvious that she

Got dragged out of my house by my mom to look for new furniture. Went to this place called the Melandas or something and found out it had closed down. Well. Anyhoo my dad insisted on going to Castilla (or however you spell it). The furniture they had were definitely the most old-fashioned and un-artistic pieces of wood and leather i had ever seen. Even the stuff at Courts and Vhive were better. Went to Ikea, but the stuff there wasn't really stuff that would make you gasp and go -gosh, i want that in my house! Headed on to IMM and my mom found her perfect couch there. It was kinda olive-beige in colour and the seats were pinstriped. After taking measurements and all, my dad went to Harvey Norman to get a printer. Then we went to Giant. Met Calvin (the zhuonghu guy) who was working there there. He was wearing this extremely orange tee. Didn't really stop to chat though, his boss was there heh.
19th December
Had Chemistry aptitude test today. I overslept. Intended to wake up at 7.30, but woke up at 8.35. Stared at my alarm clock through bleary eyes and freaked out. The test was gonna start in half an out. Rushed out of my home without bathing or eating breakfast. Did last minute revision in the Mrt. Can you imagine trying to cram 3chapters into your brain between the stops Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak? Ran into Fengling when I was walking to rushing to school. I was really not in the mood to smile and be nice, but Fenglin's usual toothy grin made me wave back anyway. Rushed to school and found out I was missing my calculator. Went to the staffroom to beg Mrs Chan for one but she wasn’t even in school yet. Decided that I'd just leave out the chemical calculation questions. When I reached, they made us wait 15minutes before starting the test. Was rather annoyed, cos I could've borrowed a calculator in that span of time. There were a few chemical calculations in the test, but they just required good skills in long division and trial and error (thing which I am okay in), so I didn't really freak out. What I did freak out, was at the last page when I didn’t know a single answer because I didn't memorise the damn chemical equations and raw materials for making sulphuric acid. So in the end, all my raw materials and equations turned out to be adding sulphuric acid to more sulphuric acid.
On the way home, I had a chat with Shiyun classmate. Funny how I can be so sociable with some people yet totally stand-offish with others. Hmm.
